What we do
Albert Stained Glass repairs
and restores old stained glass, designs and makes new stained glass, makes glass
and gemstone jewelry, and sells glass, tools and supplies to
contractors, glass
professionals and hobbyists.
Three Tiffany Studio windows restored by Albert Stained Glass Studio. They are in the dinning room of a Park Slope, Brooklyn, brownstone, circa 1890. Much of Brooklyn was built in the late 1800's, the single best period for outstanding American stained glass. |
History
Albert Stained
Glass was founded in Brooklyn in October 1990 by Albert Husted. He remains
the owner. The first studio was directly
under the Brooklyn Bridge. In August 2000, Albert moved the studio to Prospect
Heights, near Grand Army Plaza (northern tip of Prospect Park near the Brooklyn
Museum and the large Brooklyn Public Library). The new studio is easy to reach by public transportation.
Click on the "Directions" link on our home page for maps and
directions. Before opening Albert
Stained Glass, Husted
owned a small studio in
Manhattan specializing in fused glass.
Who we are
Albert is a
medium-sized studio with four full-time employees, several contract employees,
and additional apprentices. Our employee continuing education program is on-going to assure
individual growth among our workers. Armando
Tlaseca, master craftsman, is head of the restoration/commission shop. He
has been with Albert for over a decade. Jose Silva, also a master craftsman, is
second in charge of the shop
and is also manager of the retail glass department. Fidel Silva graduated
from apprentice to craftsman in 1999. Our contract employees vary in skill
from master craftsman to craftsman. At this time, our apprentices have
five or more years experience. For information about traditional levels of
expertise in glass shops, see our FAQs page.
